-Lockport Gallery Seven in Lockport opened its exhibit Art of Illinois: A Bicentennial Celebrationto a “bursting at the seams” crowd on Saturday, October 6th. Over 60 artists from around the state are part of this exciting exhibit, which is on both the second and third floors of the Gaylord Building.

Presenting the awards and a certificate of Recognition from the Illinois State Senate was Senator Pat McGuire. Artists from Tinley Park exhibiting in Art of Illinois are Carla Toth with her work Choose Happiness in Your Mess.

“This watercolor painting of my pig started as an abstract and I only saw a pig in the painting. I then added the picture of a farm I took. At the time of the painting my husband had been in and out the hospital and my aunt had broke her ankle and so much was happening. These words came to mind choosing happiness in my Mess. I choose to be cheerful and colorful like my painting during these challenging moments”.

Winning an honorable Mention with her work Defiant Innocence is Elizabeth Farnesi.

“In a world of selfishness and intolerance, it’s easy to get lost in the chaos. However, even through the fog there are moments that remind us not only of the true beauty but also the innocence of the world.

I was awakened from this state the moment my father was diagnosed with cancer and I became pregnant with my daughter. Suddenly the chaos no longer mattered and I learned to absorb and appreciate every minute I was given. My images reflect those moments frozen in time.

I create large-scale pieces that bring out the natural raw beauty in the moment that is captured through the use of light and shadow. My work is inspired by my own personal thoughts and experiences, allowing each piece to tell its own story.”

This exhibit is free and open to the public until October 31st. Don’t miss out on the chance to see this amazing work by amazing Illinois artists
