Brookside Glen Apartments Not Recommended By Plan Commission

The Tinley Park Plan Commission won't recommend a plan to build 144 apartment units near 191st Street and 80th Avenue.

TINLEY PARK, IL — The Tinley Park Plan Commission voted against recommending approval of the Brookside Glen apartments. Commissioners voted 6-0 Wednesday night during a special meeting at Victor J. Andrew High School.

Attorney Andrea Crowley represented Griffin & Gallagher, LLC on behalf of Karli Mayher and DJM-Vandenberg Brookside Joint Venture in seeking a special use permit for a substantial deviation with site plan approval for the Residences at Brookside Glen at the southwest corner of 191st Street and Magnuson Lane, a street that would be created near 80th Avenue if the project is approved.

The plan calls for multiple structures and a total of 144 apartment units.

Commissioner Tim Stanton recused himself from the vote Wednesday night. All other commissioners voted "Yes" on a motion to recommend denial of the petition.

Several residents spoke during a two-and-a-half hour meeting with at least a vast majority of them opposing the project.

“We have a lot of families moving out due to overcrowding,” one commenter said.

After voting against recommending approval, one plan commissioner suggested that the petitioner be “more accurate” with details if and when they come back with an altered plan.

Despite the Plan Commission’s recommendation, the Brookside Glen apartments plan as it exists is not off the table. The matter is still expected to come before the Village Board soon.

The village of Tinley Park shared video footage of the entire meeting on its YouTube channel.
