Cant Figure Out What to Do with Old Gym Shoes, We Can Help

Tinley Park Lions Club Gym Shoe Recycling Program

As the new school year approaches, for many it is time to purchase new gym shoes for the kids and maybe for yourself. Just throwing away the old ones can be bad for the environment. It can take 30-40 years for them to decompose and they also emit harmful chemicals into the soil and air.

So, lets try something different, Recycle them. When the Usable shoes are recycled it can help those who do not own shoes in many poor parts of the world. However, if the shoes are beyond their usefulness, they will be broke down to reuse materials.

The Tinley Park Lions Club, in partnership with the Lions of Illinois Foundation, and Gotsneakers?, are collecting shoes at the Village Farmers Market on the following days between 8 am and 12 pm:
