CMS Band Starts School Year Strong

The band kept busy with parades and public performances

The Central Middle School Band started the 2023-2024 school year strong. The marching band completed their season earlier in November, earning First Place in the Grundy County Corn Festival Parade. The band was also recognized in the best horn line, best percussion, best color guard, and overall best band of the day categories.

The marching band also performed at community events early this fall. In August, the students performed the National Anthem at a Joliet Slammers Game. They also gave an outdoor community performance at CMS. Student favorites, including music from “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “The Incredibles,” were performed.

In the middle of the fall season, several individual band students went above and beyond to audition for the Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA) Honor Band. ILMEA is a statewide organization that recognizes the finest musicians throughout Illinois.

Thirteen students were accepted, based on audition, to perform in this year’s Honor Band in November: Aisha Choughale, John Cozzi, Rebecca Dallis, Hidaya Diab, Kharren Falcatan, Ellen Gazze, Areej Khattab, Holland Lenters, Megan Lloyd, Savannah Lopez, John Schwider, Nyla Unde, and Lily Watson.

“We are very proud of these students for representing Central Middle School and District 146 so well in the ILMEA Honor Band,” said Jason Freeland, Bnad Director. “We also want to congratulate the whole marching band for their parade recognitions and fantastic public performances. We couldn’t be more proud of them.”
