Conquering Breast Cancer Forum Oct. 17
Learn about the medical and cultural issues surrounding breast cancer in the African American community.
The Southland Coalition to Conquer Breast Cancer and Ingalls Health System welcome Inspiration 1390 and V103 on-air host, Sonya Blakey, as emcee for the 16th annual Conquering Breast Cancer Forum.
The Conquering Breast Cancer Forum is a free health-awareness event focusing on medical and cultural issues surrounding breast cancer in the African-American community. The event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Odyssey Country Club in Tinley Park, 19110 S. Ridgeland Ave.
This year’s speakers include Jane Churpek, M.D., of the University of Chicago, and breast cancer survivor, community leader and activist, Tatisa Joiner.

The Conquering Breast Cancer Forum is open to the public; information presented is appropriate for women as young as 16. Education is Essential
To help educate and raise the awareness levels among African-American women on the subject of breast cancer prevention, early detection and overall breast health, Ingalls partnered with a core of socially committed women’s groups and cancer support programs to create the Southland Coalition to Conquer Breast Cancer. Members include the following: Ingalls Memorial Hospital, Black Hair International LLC, Cook County Department of Public Health, Family Christian Health Center, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc, Xi Mu Zeta Chapter.
