Crisis Center Employee Wanted for Falsifying Court-Referred Clients' Payments: Cops

Tinley Park police said crisis center employee pocketed $2,254 by overcharging court-referred clients paying on sliding fee scale.

TINLEY PARK, IL -- An employee of a crisis center who allegedly falsified client’s payments has a warrant out for his arrest.

According to Tinley Park police, Paul Williams, 47, was employed at the Crisis Center of South Suburbia, which provides services to individuals and families whose lives have been impacted by domestic violence. Between November 2016 and November 2017, the detective said Williams had been overcharging court-referred clients paying a sliding fee scale and pocketing the difference.

The discrepancies were reportedly discovered when the new executive director was conducting an audit and noticed numerous inconsistencies in the books. Williams is believed to have whited out the amounts that clients had paid on his sign-in sheets, and pocketing $2,254.

The detective told the judge that some clients paid over $100 for court-ordered violence prevention classes when they should have paid only $25. So far, police have identified at least eight clients who were overcharged. Williams allegedly told clients to make their checks payable to him.

Williams is facing a felony theft charge. The prosecutor said that Williams was convicted of burglary in 1990.

The judge issued a $10,000 warrant for Williams’ arrest.
