District 140 Spelling Bee Won by Adnan Elsholi
The top two spellers from each of the District's seven schools competed for the District title on January 23, 2024
Congratulations to District 140’s newest Spelling Bee Champion, Adnan Elsholi, a seventh-grader from Prairie View Middle School who clinched victory by correctly spelling “jeopardy.” Fouth-grader Chehada Qattum from Fernway Park Elementary School came in a close second. Third-place honors went to Bannes Elementary's fifth-grader Cody Herman.
Adnan will represent D140 in the 14th Annual Suburban Cook County ISC Scripps Spelling Bee at Southland Preparatory Charter High School in Richton Park on Wednesday, March 6.
“All of our competitors should be congratulated for their hard work and dedication,” said GATE Resource Teacher Nicole Collins. “They each did a wonderful job representing their home school.”

Competing in the spell-off were the top two building-level representatives from each of the District’s seven schools - 14 competitors from grades four through eight. The competition was coordinated by D140 GATE teachers Nicole Collins and Kate Robinson.
Runners-up included Maddie Pond from Bannes Elementary; Noah Ahmad. from Fernway Park Elementary; Daniel Rankins and Gionni Vaci from Keller Elementary; Allen Memishofski and Layla Schacht from McAuliffe Elementary; Matthew Saeed and Hamza Sumrain from Millennium Elementary; Tyler Deerwester and Jimmy Hajewski from Grissom Middle School and Dominic Russo from Prairie View Middle School.
