District 140 Spelling Bee Won by Jasmine Carpiso
Top two building-level representatives from each of the District's seven schools competed for the title on February 1, 2023

Congratulations to District 140’s new Spelling Bee Champion, Jasmine Carpiso, an eighth-grader from Grissom Middle School, who clinched the victory with the word “Azores.” Fifth-grader Erin T. from Fernway Park Elementary School came in a close second. Third-place honors went to Millennium Elementary's fifth-grader Chloe Bender.
Jasmine Carpiso now advances to the 13th Annual Suburban Cook County ISC Scripps Spelling Bee on March 8, where she will represent D140 in the competition.
“All of our competitors should be congratulated for their hard work and dedication,” said GATE Resource Teacher Nicole Collins. “They each did a wonderful job representing their home school.”
Competing in the spell-off were the top two building-level representatives from each of the District’s seven schools - a total of 14 competitors from grades four through eight. The competition was coordinated by D140 GATE teachers Kate Robinson and Nicole Collins.

Runners-up included: Zackary Santiago and Jack Follis from Bannes Elementary; Noah Ahmad from Fernway Park Elementary; Sama Darawad and Carson Baker from Keller Elementary; Jiro Cereneche and Allen Memishofski from McAuliffe Elementary; Sereen Alnadi from Millennium Elementary; Gabriella Garritano from Grissom Middle School; Isabella Portillo and Ava Galietta from Prairie View Middle School.
