Former T-Bolt shows promise as German teacher

Victor J. Andrew Class of 2020 alumna Macy Sherwood is a first-year German Teacher at Addison Trail High School and was recently named the 2024 Illinois Council of Teachers of Foreign Language (ICTFL) New Teacher of the Year.

The ICTFL Award for New Teachers of World Language recognizes individuals who have recently entered the world language teaching profession and who show outstanding promise of becoming professionally active ICTFL members, as well as capable teachers of world languages, including English as a second language

She received a bachelor’s degree in the teaching of German from University of Illinois Chicago last spring. While at VJA, Macy was an active member of German Club, a member of the German National Honor Society, a participant in the Germany Exchange program, and she won the World Language Student of the Year award her senior year.

Sherwood’s German teachers from Andrew Ginn Krosel and Erika Lupacchino were in attendance at the ICTFL Fall conference and watched Sherwood receive her award. Lupacchino said, “The New Teacher Award is very prestigious and both we are hugely proud of her.”
