District 230 focuses on post-secondary planning

Efforts help reduce achievement gaps

Consolidated High School District 230 English Learner (EL) students from Victor J. Andrew High School recently traveled to Moraine Valley Community College (MVCC) to take their placement exams in preparation for possible enrollment next fall, helping ensure a smooth transition to college courses.

Any student interested in college needs to see themselves as capable of post-secondary education. Exposing students to college opportunities encourages them to be more successful in their high school classes, thereby reducing the achievement gap.

Before taking the placement test, EL students had exposure to multiple post-secondary opportunities on the MVCC campus. Students studied multiple different college readiness materials and practice exams, as well as explored various trade programs, sat in on lectures and completed their FASFA applications.
