Drive Out Hunger #1Mile1Meal

Local business helps make a difference in our community by collecting food and helping feed the hungry.

Hunger is a daily reality for many.  Midas is working with local food banks to bring food, funds and hands-on assistance to hunger relief efforts in the communities where their customers and associates live and work.

Nearly 50 million people in the U.S. and Canada are food insecure, meaning they don’t know where their next meal is coming from.  The face of hunger is often misunderstood, effecting people across all walks of life - some of Midas’ own local dealers experienced hunger as children.  As one of the world’s largest franchises, there are locally owned Midas shops in every state and providence in North America.  Hunger is everywhere, and so are they.  For 59 years, they’ve built their reputation by working hard to make people’s lives easier - Drive Out Hunger is an extension of that.

Midas dealers launched Drive Out Hunger, in November 2014.  For decades prior, dozens of local Midas franchise owners had been involved in community outreach activities.  A growing number of them were deeply passionate about hunger relief, donating time, money and food to local food banks - and inviting their customers to join them. It was time to bring all these efforts together in a unified voice, and leverage the messaging power and manpower of one of the world’s most trusted brands to truly make an impact on hunger across North America.

Drive Out Hunger uses wide-scale social media and experiential campaigns to raise awareness and generate support for hunger relief.  At a local level, Drive Out Hunger comes to life through direct partnerships between Midas owners and community food banks.  Hundreds of Midas dealers across North America have turned their lobbies into food collection sites, with many running Drive Out Hunger promotions, setting up volunteer outings, and generating donations of food or funds.

Drive Out Hunger is not a campaign; it’s a long-term platform for demonstrating Midas’ commitment to hunger relief.  The Drive Out Hunger #1Mile1Meal hunger-fighting road trip is a locally driven campaign where all the donations are received by the independently owned and operated Midas franchisees and gifted in their local communities.  To get directly involved with donating events, reach out to any of the Midas franchisees whose shops are on the tour route!

Midas is traveling across 10,000 miles and 25 cities to drive awareness and inspire action.  For every use of #1Mile1Meal, the truck will drive another mile and Midas will donate another meal to local food banks.  Please follow their journey, join them at an event,  or reach out to your local food bank to donate food, money, or time.  Please help spread the word by sharing this article!

I am lucky enough to be able to feed my family, so I took $40...what it would cost us for a nice dinner...and went shopping.  $40 bought a lot of food...I’m glad I’m fortunate enough to be able to help and hopefully make a difference.

You can drop off your donations of food or money, to Midas of Tinley Park at  7011 W 159th Street.

You are also welcome to come out to the kickoff Tuesday, June 9th from 4-6pm at their Chicago location at 158 W. Grand Avenue in Chicago.
