Federal Agent, CPD Officer Shoot 2 Amid Gun Trafficking Operation In Country Club Hills: ATF

The incident happened and 189th and Loretto Lane Tuesday evening.

COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, IL — Two suspects were shot amid an ATF gun trafficking operation Tuesday evening in Country Club Hills, the agency confirmed Wednesday.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) was conducting the operation at 189th and Loretto Lane in Country Club Hills when an ATF special agent and a task force officer discharged their firearms in response to an attempted armed robbery of undercover agents, striking two suspects, according to the agency.

Both suspects were taken into custody and taken to the hospital for medical treatment. They are currently in stable condition, officials said.

Three additional suspects were apprehended at the scene, the ATF said.

ATF is being assisted by the Illinois State Police, FBI and Chicago Police Department.

COPA is also investigating because a Chicago police officer was involved, according to officials.

The ATF said the incident remains an active and ongoing investigation, and additional information will be released as appropriate.
