A teacher from Rich East High School in Park Forest has been arrested and placed on leave amid a former student’s allegation of sexual abuse.

In a letter to the District 227 community, Rich Township District 227 Board of Education President Antoine Bass said the teacher was immediately removed from the classroom on Nov. 30, after the district was informed of the student’s allegation. He has since been arrested by the Park Forest Police Department and is still in custody. Charges are pending, according to the department’s records division.

The teacher will not be allowed on district grounds or at district events, and is prohibited from any contact with parents or students.
