Hastings celebrates over $11,000 in library grants coming to the 19th

FRANKFORT – State Senator Michael E. Hastings has announced that six school districts in the 19th Senate District have received over $11,000 to provide resources to libraries such as books, periodicals, technology and programs.

“Libraries are an essential aspect of our children’s education and growth,” said Hastings (D-Frankfort). “Through this funding, our students will be able to access educational resources that will enrich them and help them to succeed.”

The General Reserve Fund finances the School District Library Grant Program, appropriated by the Illinois General Assembly.

The following school districts in Hastings’ district received a total of $11,162:

• Frankfort School District 157-C - $2,286
• Summit Hill School District 161 - $2,112
• Rich Township High School District 227 - $2,108
• Matteson School District 162 - $1,945
• Matteson-Richton Park Elementary School District 159 - $1,379
• Mokena School District 159 - $1,329

The grants are awarded once every fiscal year, and will support school library services for over 1 million students enrolled in kindergarten through 12th grade across the state.

“Education is vital to the success of our students,” Hastings said. “These library resources will help our students learn and grow for years to come.”
