High School Postseason HQ: L-W North Advances in Baseball, Boys Volleyball

It's postseason time for high school spring sports, and we want to keep you updated on the progress of our local student-athletes. Here's a quick and easy way to track the teams for Andrew, Tinley Park and Lincoln-Way North high schools.

Baseball

• Andrew: The Thunderbolts lost to Richards, 8-0, in the regional semifinal Friday, May 24, at Richards. The game had been postponed twice.
• L-W North: The No. 1-seeded Phoenix defeated Shepard in six innings, 11-1, in the regional semifinal Friday, May 24, at Lincoln-Way Central. L-W North faces L-W Central at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at Central.

Softball

• Tinley Park: The No. 1-seeded Titans face Oak Forest at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at Oak Forest.
• L-W North: The No. 7-seeded Phoenix will play Providence Catholic at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at home.

Soccer (Girls)

• L-W North: The Phoenix lost to Sandburg, 2-1, in the sectional championship Friday, May 24, at Andrew.

Volleyball (Boys)

• Andrew: The Thunderbolts lost to Sandburg (25-14, 25-17) in the regional final Wednesday, May 22, at Sandburg.
• L-W North: The Phoenix defeated Sandburg (35-29, 25-19) in the sectional semifinal Friday, May 24, at Andrew. The team will play Lincoln-Way East in the sectional championship at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Andrew.

Tennis (Boys)

• Andrew: In singles, senior Brian Moy lost to Mark Gavin of Rolling Meadows (6-1, 6-2) in the first round of the state tournament Thursday, May 23, at Hersey. He beat JonLuke Passett of Sandburg by default in his first-round consolation match. Moy then lost to Cole Buehnerkemper of St. Anthony (6-3, 6-2) in his second-round consolation match Friday, May 24. Also in singles, senior Kevin Karczynski beat Chris McDonough fo West Warrenville South (2-6, 6-3, 6-2) in the first round. He lost to Eric Pontow of Sandburg (6-0, 6-0) in the second round, then lost to Will Sauser of Glenbrook North (6-0, 6-2) in his second-round consolation match. In doubles, sophomores Austin Wabi and Alan Wang beat Eddie Kemper and Cody Hollensbe of Casey-Westfield (6-2, 6-1) in the first round. They lost to Yahn Gawrit and Alex Keller of Lane (6-2, 6-3) in the second round and lost to Michael Yoo and Gabe Mitchell (6-0, 7-5) in their second-round consolation match. Seniors Mark Sivak and Michael McGrath lost to Noah Rosenblatt and Harrison Crist of Deerfield (6-0, 6-0) in the first round, then lost to Nick Kuhl & Derek Walker of East Richard (6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (2)).
• L-W North: In single, sophomore Sam Knuth lost to Jonathon Elsey of York (6-0, 6-4) in the first round. He then lost to Jack Friend of F.W. Parker (6-0, 6-0) in his first-round consolation match.
