Hillcrest creates murals at hospital for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Hillcrest High School students created murals on Advocate South Suburban Hospital's sidewalk in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
On Wednesday, October 19, seven Hillcrest High School Art Club students participated in creating sidewalk murals for Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest.
The sidewalk chalk drawings were created outside the Advocate South Suburban Hospital Front Lobby, and its Center for Advanced Care. Hundreds of patients and visitors use these entrances every day.
Patients being discharged from hospital care will now see the bright designs as they leave the hospital through the front lobby. Patients needing outpatient surgery, chemotherapy and routine treatment for chronic conditions such as Congestive Heart Failure and diabetes use the Center for Advanced Care entrance. Hospital staff will certainly enjoy the drawings as well.

Advocate South Suburban invited the Hillcrest students to add a bit of cheer and color for patients and staff.
“It’s such a hard time in the world. With the pandemic, we keep getting closer to life as we once knew it but there is still some pandemic fatigue with the staff,” says Jill Shroeder, registered nurse and clinical coordinator for ambulatory care. “This will be a nice change of scenery to have color and design to look at.”

“I believe that our schools are the pillars of our community,” said Jamilah Adebesin Mason, Art Society Sponsor at Hillcrest. “Having our youth showcase their talents is one way for them to contribute to their community.”
