Mayor Glotz increases Tinley Park water rates

Bimonthly billing meant to disguise increased rate

New water rates are set to go into effect this month for the Village of Tinley Park.

According to the Village, water rates in 2024 are increasing from $7.48 per 1,000 gallons of water used for customers using between 8,000 and 12,000 gallons on a bi-monthly basis to $9.53.

But that’s not all. In addition to the Mayor Glotz’ rate increase, customers will be charged a bimonthly fee of $9 for the billing. That’s six bills for a total of $54 dollars per year ON TOP OF the actual rate increase. Where is the $54 dollars per household going? Is it going to pay for more Mike Madigan cronies? Is it going to pay for more legal bills to Paul O’Grady’s law firm?

Prior to this year, residents were paying quarterly water bills. Moving to bimonthly billing means that even though the rates have gone up – the bimonthly bills may be less or about the same as the quarterly bills residents are used to seeing.

The change in billing from quarterly to bimonthly is intentional. The hope is people will not see much of a difference in their bills and forget that they are paying two more water bills than they usually do. Not only is Glotz’s administration raising water rates, but they are deliberately doing it in a way to deceive residents. This may be one of the Mayor’s more insidious schemes to date.

Shenanigans like this are not surprising with Mike Glotz’s administration. Communities sometimes have to raise water rates. The Village should be up front and honest about these decisions and tell people what they are doing and why they are doing it. That is what responsible leaders do. Unfortunately, we don’t have responsible leadership in Tinley Park and taxpayers will spend hundreds of dollars more a year in addition to all the other increases Glotz has implemented. Shameful!
