Meeting On Recreational Marijuana In Tinley Park Set

TINLEY PARK, IL — A meeting will be held next week to talk about the possibility of recreational marijuana dispensaries opening in Tinley Park as early as next year. Representatives from the village's police, community development, finance and legal departments will present information to the members of the village board who will eventually decide whether Tinley Park will be open for business in the pot industry during a meeting scheduled for Nov. 12.

No vote will be taken at the meeting, but public input will be welcomed. The village also says it will issue an online survey the day after the meeting to gauge public opinion on the topic.

The board is expected to hear and discuss all potential options the village could take as marijuana becomes legal in Illinois on Jan. 1, 2020. A vote on the issue is expected to come at a later date.

Earlier this year, some officials in Tinley Park said they would be open to the possibility of allowing the dispensaries to open here.

In nearby Oak Forest, village officials plan to meet this week to talk about where dispensaries could open since they have already been approached by several looking to open pot shops there.

Orland Park has already banned dispensaries.
