SOUTH HOLLAND, IL–The Art & Design Department of South Suburban College (SSC) is pleased to present a new exhibition in celebration of Women’s History Month in March, located in the Thiel Gallery on SSC’s Main Campus in South Holland.
An exhibition of art works by Jan Meister titled “Beyond the Print - Combined Media Monoprint Constructions” is on display in the Dorothea Thiel Gallery through March 29, 2016. There will be an afternoon reception for Meister on March 22nd at1:00 p.m.
Jan Meister is a printmaker at heart but utilizes mixed media and digital imaging as part of her artworks. Her works can sometimes be probing and introspective, yet others are humorous and playful. All are deeply personal, reflecting her past as a south side high school educator for 30 years, and present as an artist and humanistic optimist.

She often begins with her love of texture and frequently includes mundane collage objects such as parts of inter-office envelopes, book covers, and torn paper. She uses them as compositional elements, which then develop into works that address her past and present while sharing her love of nature and reflection upon our endangered ecosystem.
The public is welcome to visit art exhibitions and receptions at no charge. The Thiel Gallery is on the 4th floor in the Art & Design hallway. SSC Galleries are open at minimum Mondays through Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The galleries are closed on weekends and holidays.
