Replacement Could Come Soon For Toppled Fountain In Tinley

Officials are ready to move forward with getting a new fountain in Zabrocki Plaza one year after the old one was damaged and removed.

TINLEY PARK, IL -- A new fountain for Zabrocki Plaza in Tinley Park is one step closer. Members of a village committee agreed to move forward with getting a cost estimate for a new fountain, according to a report from the Daily Southtown and an agenda for the next village board meeting includes an item that indicates $45,000 could be spent for the firm Tournesol Site Works of Union City, California to work on the project.

The $45,000 is only for the installation of the new fountain, other costs may come up as part of the project.

The new fountain would replace one that was toppled and heavily damaged one year ago over Labor Day weekend in 2016. According to earlier reports, Daniel McDonald, of Tinley Park, was charged with one count of criminal damage to property after allegedly knocking over the treasured fountain on Oak Park Avenue.

Rather that repairing the old fountain, village officials then decided to remove it. The board meeting agenda indicates the village will likely replace it with a different kind of fountain, one that has a single bowl with jets of water around the perimeter that shoot toward a central geyser.
