Orland Park Sex Offender Wanted For Allegedly Lurking Around Homer Glen School

A predatory sex offender and former police dispatcher was allegedly lurking around a Homer Glen elementary school.

Michael Varela, 42, has a warrant out for his arrest in connection with his alleged visit to William E. Young School in April.

Varela was a police dispatcher when he was indicted on four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, two counts of attempted predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in February 2004, according to a story in the Kankakee Daily Journal.

“Incidents of sexual penetration and fondling occurred in Bourbonnais Township and Manteno, Kankakee County Sheriff’s Police said,” according to the story. “Varela reportedly started abusing the two girls, who are family members, in 2000.”

Valera was living in Tinley Park at the time, the story said.

Varela was also jailed last month for allegedly failing to report his address to police. That case remains pending.
