Park Forest Man Tries, Fails to Charm Ladies at Tinley Gas Station, Instead Gets in Trouble With Law: Police

The man tried explaining "he does this all the time and it's not illegal to flirt," police said.

A Park Forest man got in trouble with the law for allegedly plying women at a Tinley Park gas station with his romantic charms.

Officers sent to the Speedway on 183rd Street for a “complaint of a (man) soliciting women for sex from a red van” found 54-year-old Charles Harris, who told them “he has a wife and up to three girlfriends and was looking for some company,” police said.

The officers then spoke with a pair of women, ages 30 and 22. The women said “Charles approached them inside the gas station and asked if they wanted to ‘play,’” according to a police report.

The women “didn’t know how to respond and Charles stated that he ‘needed play time’ and began to infer that he wanted to have sex with them,” police said. “The victims advised they were not interested and began to exit the store with Charles talking to them and following them. When Charles saw the victims walking up to a group of men he apologized and walked the other way. Both victims advised they were disturbed by Charles’ actions and comments, and he made them feel uncomfortable. They both wished to sign a complaint.”

The police reportedly then went to talk to Harris once more. This time, he told them he “does this all the time and it’s not illegal to flirt,” police said.

During their conversation with Harris, police said, officers noticed the back windows of his van were inscribed “in permanent lettering” with “B**TSY Will Funk U 14 K Funk.”

The cops did not explain what that means but apparently found it suspicious enough to put in a police report.

The officers eventually discovered that Harris has “an extensive criminal history with an arrest for sexual assault.” That, coupled with the women’s wish to sign complaints, prompted them to charge the alleged ladies’ man with disorderly conduct.
