Recap: Lincoln-Way 210 School Closure Options

Lincoln-Way District 210 Board of Education members Thursday will decide the fate of its schools, and in turn the redistribution of the district’s 7,000 students.

One school will close in the district’s attempt to hoist itself out of a $5.5 million deficit and get off the state’s financial watch list. Along with the decision of which school to close, the board will determine how its students will be reallocated among its three schools beginning in fall 2016.

The board has designed options for the closing of each school, each focusing either on redrawing boundaries based on feeder schools, or by geographical boundaries.

Here’s how the enrollment shakes out currently:

Lincoln-Way Central (1,889 students)

• Martino Junior High (New Lenox District 122)
• Manhattan District 114

Lincoln-Way West (1,285 students)

• Liberty Junior High (New Lenox District 122)

Lincoln-Way East (2,154 students)

• Mokena District 159
• Frankfort District 157-C

Lincoln-Way North (1,766 students)
