Softball: Tinley Park Ends Season With Thrilling 3rd Place Win
The Titans edge out Sterling in exciting fashion, 5-4, to take third place in the Class 3A state softball tournament Saturday in East Peoria.

Thanks to the one-two punch of senior Alyssa Gunther and junior Samantha Alberto, Tinley Park High School was able to edge out Sterling, 5-4, to take third place Saturday, June 8, in the Class 3A state softball tournament in East Peoria.
With the score tied, 4-4, in the 7th inning, Gunther scored the game-winning run on a double by Alberto. Gunther also turned a fancy game-saving double play in the 6th, making a diving catch, then throwing out the Sterling runner at second who didn't tag up and couldn't get back in time to beat the throw.
In the end, Gunther had 3 hits, 2 runs and an RBI, and Alberto racked up 3 hits, 2 RBI and a home run.
The Titans finished 25-8 on the season. This was the furthest a softball team from the school has advanced in the postseason.
