SSSRA Supporter Recognized at State Conference
Matt Windle and the Tinley Park Bulldogs Recognized at the Illinois Therapeutic Recreation Section Annual Meeting

Matt Windle and the Tinley Park Bulldogs were recognized at the Illinois Therapeutic Recreation Section Annual Meeting, held at the Hilton, Chicago, on January 18. Mr. Windle and the Bulldogs received the Excellence in Service Award, for the annual unified Softball Game they have hosted the past six years for South Suburban Special Recreation Association (SSSRA) Softball athletes.
Mr. Windle initially approached SSSRA in 2011, with a vision of Inclusion between the ladies from their 18U travel team and SSSRA athletes. Since that time, they have hosted a game every summer, which has included: a first pitch ceremony before the game; jerseys for both teams; play by play announcing; and even appearances by Southpaw from the Chicago White Sox. SSSRA athletes, parents and staff look forward to this event every year. The game has also made an impact on the Lady Bulldogs, many who are now in college, but who call Mr. Windle to request to play in the game each year.
SSSRA is grateful to Mr. Windle, Coach Don Wetzel, and all of the Lady Bulldogs for the positive impact they have made on our organization. The association was proud to see them recognized during the annual Illinois Association of Park Districts/Illinois Park & Recreation Association State Conference.
SSSRA is a therapeutic recreation program that is an extension of eight park districts and three recreation and parks departments. It is organized to provide individuals with disabilities or special needs, the opportunity to be involved in year-round recreation.
