Tinley Park, IL – The Knights of Columbus Crusaders Council 10151 presented St. Coletta’s of Illinois with a check for $1,400 from their annual Tootsie Roll Days fundraiser.

The Crusaders Council, out of Our Lady of the Woods Parish, has a long-standing history with St. Coletta’s that goes back to when they were both located in Palos Park.

“Our Lady of the Woods was right on the St. Coletta’s campus for many years,” stated Grand Knight George Griffin. “Several of the Knights have special needs children, many of whom attended St. Coletta’s Kennedy School.”

A move to Orland Park did not stop Our Lady of the Woods from continuing their relationship with St. Coletta’s. In addition to fundraising each year through the Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll event, each Christmas the parish provides gifts for St. Coletta’s residential participants through their “Giving Tree” program. And when St. Coletta’s needed volunteers recently for their own tagging event, some of the volunteers came from Our Lady of the Woods without hesitation.

When it comes to the difficulties those with intellectual and developmental disabilities face, Griffin goes on to say that “As a council, as a Knight, we pledge to help those who need help. No one should be without hope or without help.”
