Student Who Pepper Sprayed Hallway At Andrew Charged
A 17-year-old boy who attends Andrew High School was charged with reckless conduct after a pepper spray incident caused a school evacuation.

TINLEY PARK, IL -- An Andrew High School student who authorities say released pepper spray into a first-floor hallway Monday afternoon, causing an evacuation of the school, has been charged. The male student, who is 17, was charged with reckless conduct as a juvenile according to a news release from the village of Tinley Park.
Tinley Park police and fire units responded to the school at 9001 W. 171st St. at 1:41 p.m. on Monday to a call of an irritant having been sprayed on the first floor near the school's Family and Consumer Science classrooms, District 230 Spokeswoman Carla Erdey said in a statement Monday. Students and staff were ordered outdoors for a period of about two hours until a hazardous material team gave an all-clear to enter the building.

The school was closed for the remainder of the day Monday and after school activities were held on a volunteer basis. The school re-opened on Tuesday.

There were no reported injuries. Erdey said the evacuation was called out of "an abundance of caution."
