Thornridge Student Killed; Community Raising Funds To Pay For Funeral

DOLTON, IL — The Dolton community is raising money to pay for the funeral of a local athlete who was killed over the weekend, according to a GoFundMe created to help the family.
Devin Tavares Barksdale grew up playing football for the Dolton Bears and more recently played basketball for Thornridge High School, the GoFundMe said, adding his number, 33, will be retired from Thornridge.
“The world lost a shining light when Devin was killed early April 22, 2023,” the GoFundMe said.

The 18-year-old is survived by three brothers as well as many other family members, according to the GoFundMe. As of Wednesday evening, the fundraiser had exceeded its $5,000 goal.
