Tinley Park HS Coach Nick Johnston Named Assistant Coach of the Year

"This award is really a reflection of our student-athletes and coaching staff," Johnston said.

Tinley Park High School is thrilled to announce that Assistant Track and Field Coach Nick Johnston has been named a recipient of the Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association (ITCCCA) Assistant Coach Award. This award recognizes Coach Johnston’s dedication, leadership, and the lasting impact he’s made on student-athletes over the years.

With more than a decade of coaching experience, Johnston has been a cornerstone of Tinley Park’s athletic success. In addition to coaching, he teaches physical education, driver’s education, and occasionally economics and history. His passion for mentoring young people extends well beyond the classroom.

“This award is really a reflection of our student-athletes and coaching staff,” Johnston said. “Seeing the kids grow as athletes and individuals is the most rewarding part of what we do. Their hard work and commitment make recognition like this possible.”

The ITCCCA Assistant Coach Award is given to those who have served as an assistant coach for at least ten years and have been nominated by their peers. Johnston’s nomination came from Head Coaches Wade Taber and Jack Mangan, who praised his tireless efforts with both the boys’ and girls’ track programs.

Johnston has played an integral role in the girls’ track team’s recent success, including their impressive third-place finish at last year’s state meet. His focus on building a positive team culture and developing individual talent has helped elevate the program to new heights.
The award will be presented at the ITCCCA Awards Ceremony on Friday, January 10, 2025, at the Eaglewood Resort in Itasca, Illinois. The evening will also honor Athletes of the Year, Hall of Fame inductees, and other award recipients.
