Tinley Park HS Students Visit Holocaust Museum
Fifty students traveled to Skokie to visit the Holocaust Education and Information Museum

Earlier this month, Tinley Park High School English teachers, Mrs. Brandy Winstead, Mrs. Susan Kamp, and Mrs. Tammie Schultz took a group of 50 students to Skokie to visit the Holocaust Education and Information Museum. On their visit, the students learned about the events surrounding World War II and the Holocaust. They were exposed to many great exhibits containing authentic artifacts from shoes and clothing to pictures and documents which made the Holocaust truly come to life. All of the students gained much knowledgeable information. The day ended with a rare treat; a live presentation from a Holocaust survivor. The students learned of the various types of people that were present during the Holocaust. These types of people are still present today: the victims, the perpetrators, the collaborators, the bystanders and the upstanders. The students learned how important the “upstander” was during the Holocaust. These were the people who took in Jewish families and children. These were the people who knew what was going on was wrong and took a stance. Mrs. Winstead’s, Mrs. Kamp’s and Mrs. Schultz’s students learned that everyday each of us make choices. These choices are what makes us who we are. Be an “upstander” and make the world a better place.
