Tinley Park HS Students Visit UIC
College visits increase college awareness and prepare students for the college selection process
Recently, thirteen Tinley Park High School students. along with school counselor, Dr. Anitrese Wilks and project manager, Senoria Cain, took a college visit to the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). The students listened to a presentation explaining the different educational programs and study abroad opportunities the college offers its students. After the presentation, the students walked the campus, touring the classrooms, lecture halls, computer labs, and dorms and taking in the amazing view of our city of Chicago. The walking tour gave the students an opportunity to see what campus life is about. Daniel Bahena-Murillo attended the visit and stated, “I’d really like to go to a school close enough to home that I can choose whether to commute or live on campus. I had my list narrowed to six schools, but after our visit UIC has definitely moved into being one of the top two.” The TPHS counseling department plans on taking students on various college visits throughout the school year to increase college awareness and prepare students for the college selection process.
