Tinley Park Man Ambushes Ex-Girlfriend, Keeps Her Captive at Orland Park Home: Police

The woman escaped when her ex-boyfriend left her home alone, police said.

A Tinley Park man ambushed his ex-girlfriend, dragged her screaming into her garage and kept her captive in her own home, police said.

Michael Woelfel, 38, was charged with kidnapping and aggravated domestic battery in connection with the alleged early Sunday morning attack on his 34-year-old girlfriend.

Officers met with the woman shortly before 11:30 a.m. Sunday. She told them she got home about 1:45 that morning to find Woelfel “hiding near her garage door,” police said.

Woelfel took hold of the woman, “pulled her into the garage, covered her mouth when (she) was screaming for help and closed the overhead garage door,” police said. “He then grabbed (her) around the face and neck and took the (her) to the ground, landing on top her.”

Woelfel took away the woman’s phone when she tried to call the cops, police said.she reportedly woman “suffered minor injuries during the attack.”

“Woelfel restricted the (woman’s) movement and would not allow her to leave the home or use the phone,” police said. She was “finally allowed to leave the residence at 10:45 am when Woelfel also left the home. (She) was able to notify family members and contact the police.”

Woelfel was arrested at his home on 167th Street.
