Tinley Park May Drop Police Residency Requirement

Negotiations between the union and village may result in new contract that drops longtime residency requirement in Tinley Park.

TINLEY PARK, IL — Tinley Park police officers may no longer need to live in Tinley Park when the next contract is approved between the village and Chapter 192 of the Metropolitan Alliance of Police.

An arbitrator decided during negotiations that police officers in the village should be allowed to live within a 30-mile radius of the center of town, according to a report from the Daily Southtown. Negotiations included the union’s hopes for a 55-mile radius while attorneys for the village wanted an eight-mile radius.

The village board is expected to vote on the full contract, which includes police officers paying more for insurance co-pays and deductibles, at its meeting on June 20.
