Tinley Park Mayor Michael Glotz Faces Challenger Michael Maloney in April Election

The race for mayor of Tinley Park is heating up, with incumbent Michael Glotz facing a formidable challenge from Michael Maloney, a former union leader and community advocate. The election, set for April 1, 2025, has already drawn significant attention due to the candidates' starkly different backgrounds and visions for the village.
Glotz, elected as mayor in 2021, leads the One Tinley Park slate, which includes Village Clerk Nancy O’Connor and trustees William Brady, Dennis Mahoney, and Colleen Sullivan. A member of Operating Engineers Local 150, Glotz has come under scrutiny during his tenure for alleged ethical lapses, including accusations of using fake online profiles, accepting questionable donations, and engaging in pay-for-play tactics.
On the opposing side is Michael Maloney, leading the Tinley Together ticket. Maloney, a former president of Pipefitters Local 597, brings extensive experience managing large-scale projects, including remediation efforts for hazardous materials in nuclear power stations. His current role involves overseeing the cleanup of the 280-acre former Tinley Park Mental Health Center, a project the Park District envisions transforming into a multi-purpose recreational facility.
Joining Maloney on the Tinley Together slate are Village Clerk candidate Cynthia “Cindy” O’Boyle and trustee candidates Melissa Sanfilippo, Eric Schmidt, and Matthew Walsh. Walsh, a former Tinley Park police chief, resigned in 2023 to take a similar position in Indian Head Park.
The campaign marks a clash of priorities: Glotz’s team emphasizes continuity and development, while Maloney’s ticket highlights transparency, community involvement, and the revitalization of key properties like the Mental Health Center.
With One Tinley Park reporting substantial campaign funds of $231,000 as of the latest filings, and the formation of Tinley Together earlier this month, the race is shaping up to be closely watched.
The outcome will not only determine leadership but also set the tone for Tinley Park’s future, as both candidates navigate public concerns over ethics, economic development, and the balance between community needs and business interests.
