Tinley Park Village Board To Vote On Police Promotions

TINLEY PARK, IL — Tinley Park trustees soon will vote on several promotions within the police department, the Village said Tuesday.

The Tinley Park Village Board will vote Oct. 6 on promoting Sgt. Melissa Bonarek to the position of division police commander and Officer Dominic DeMarchi to police sergeant during its regular meeting at Village Hall. The board will vote at a subsequent meeting on appointing Officer Sonny London to the position of police watch commander.

Sgt. Bonarek joined the Tinley Park Police Department in 2007. During her nearly 20-year career with the Village, Sgt. Bonarek has served in a wide range of specialized roles including field training officer, range instructor, evidence technician, juvenile officer, D.A.R.E. officer, and bike patrol officer. She was promoted to Sergeant in 2018 and has been providing first-line supervision and leadership to ensure effective delivery of police services to the community.

As sergeant, Bonarek also focuses on strategic oversight, policy implementation, personnel development, and coordination across department divisions. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice, along with various other training and professional development certifications. Before coming to Tinley Park, Sgt. Bonarek served as a Patrol Officer with the Palos Hills Police Department for three years.

Officer DeMarchi joined the Tinley Park Police Department in 2018 and has more than a decade of experience in law enforcement. During his time in Tinley Park, he’s served as a field training officer, firearms instructor, and tactics instructor. Since 2024, he’s served as detective with investigative and technical expertise focused on digital investigations and cellular technology, financial crimes and cryptocurrency, and major cases.

Officer DeMarchi has led and coordinated multi-agency investigative efforts and has served as officer-in-charge on numerous occasions. He’s also developed and delivered recurring instruction to the Tinley Park Police Department on various training subjects.

Officer DeMarchi has a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice and has received multiple Tinley Park Police Department Unit citations and commendations for investigative and operational performance. He served as a patrol officer with the Village of Olympia Fields for two years and completed the police academy with the Village of Thornton.

During his 21-year career with Tinley Park, Officer London has served as a field training officer, where he mentored and trained 25 officers in the FTO program. He also served as a juvenile officer, D.A.R.E. officer, firearms instructor, crisis intervention team member, and as administrator, coordinator, and instructor of the Citizen Police Academy for 12 years.

Officer London has been actively engaged in community policing for the last six years. He has served as school resource officer with Consolidated High School District 230, providing on-site law enforcement and serving as a liaison between the police department, educators, school administrators, parents, students, and the community. He also has eight years of managerial experience in the private sector prior to beginning his career in law enforcement. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in business management. He served as a police officer with the Palos Hills Police Department for two years before joining Tinley Park in 2005.

The next Tinley Park Village Board meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6 in the Council Chambers at Village Hall, 16250 S. Oak Park Avenue.
