Tinley Park Woman Accused of Stabbing Boyfriend with 8-Inch Knife
Woman's attorney claims client stabbed him in self-defense after argument. Boyfriend hospitalized with serious stab wounds, prosecutor says.

A woman planning to leave her longtime boyfriend is accused of stabbing him with an eight-inch knife after a heated argument in their Tinley Park apartment.
Brittney Ames, 25, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on a charge of aggravated battery. Her boyfriend is in the hospital recovering from stab wounds, prosecutors said.
According to the charges, Ames and her boyfriend were in a nine-year relationship and had two young children together. When the boyfriend came home to their apartment around 2:30 a.m. Jan. 17, the couple got into an argument.

The boyfriend accused Ames of pouring water on his TV set. She told him to leave the apartment. After more heated words, Ames went into the kitchen and got an 8-inch knife, the prosecutor said.
Ames allegedly stabbed him in the abdomen, causing him to fall to his knees bleeding profusely from his wounds. When he had difficulty breathing, the prosecutor said, Ames called 911 and made admissions she had stabbed her boyfriend.

The boyfriend suffered a laceration to his abdominal wall and a severed artery. Police said there were no marks on Ames indicating she had been physically abused when they answered the call, the prosecutor said.
Ames’ attorney told the judge that Ames had been dating her boyfriend since she was 16. She was packed and ready to take their children to move in with her mother.
When her boyfriend came home, he saw the suitcases and ”the victim started a fight with her,” Ames’ attorney said.
The attorney finished by stating her client stabbed her boyfriend in self- defense when he jumped on her.
Bail was set at $10,000. Ames is to remain on electronic home monitoring and submit to random drug testing if she bonds out. She is have no contact with her boyfriend.
“You can take those kids but that can change,” Judge Felice told her.
Ames is due back in court in Bridgeview on Feb. 11.
