Tinley Together Pledges to Bring 4th of July Back to McCarthy Park
Michael Maloney pledges to reinstate McCarthy Park's Fourth of July celebrations upon election as mayor.
Tinley Park, IL – Mayoral candidate Michael Maloney and the Tinley Together party pledged to bring back the July 4th fireworks show to McCarthy Park as part of their campaign to restore cherished community traditions and make Tinley Park families the priority in the mayor’s office.
“For over 40 years, people of all ages looked forward to our local tradition of celebrating Independence Day at McCarthy Park,” Maloney said. “Instead of honoring that tradition, the current administration turned this celebration into a bloated festival that invites problems and spiraling costs. With the Tinley Together party, we will put families and
community values first.”
The Village’s new fireworks show has been among many moves to retaliate against the Park District, Maloney said, with the village cutting off long-standing contracts with the Park District for fuel that help the community run smoothly and by double-charging taxpayers for essential services like police officers and equipment to hold the Park District’s annual Running O’ The Green 8K race.

“Tinley taxpayers are being charged for the Park District to use police officers and equipment to hold community events,” Maloney said. “This isn’t the mayor’s personal pocketbook – this is taxpayer money. Not only is it unfair to taxpayers, but it also undermines our community organizations and creates unnecessary conflict.”

1. Restore the 4th of July Celebration at McCarthy Park to its roots as a family-focused, safe, and enjoyable event.
2. Work collaboratively with the Park District to ensure they have the resources needed without being financially penalized or politically bullied.
3. Cut unnecessary costs and focus on responsible budgeting, so taxpayer dollars are used wisely.
4. Foster a spirit of community unity by putting an end to divisive leadership and promoting partnerships that work for everyone.
“Together, we can restore Tinley Park’s family-friendly traditions and create a community where everyone feels welcome,” Maloney concluded. “It’s time to bring Tinley together again.”
