Tinley Together Unveils Plan to Reduce Property Burden on Residents

Tinley Park, IL – The Tinley Together party, led by mayoral candidate Michael Maloney, announced a plan today to stabilize and reduce the property tax burden on Tinley Park residents while ensuring schools, parks, and libraries receive the funding they need. The plan addresses the misuse of Tax Increment Financing (TIF) districts, excessive corporate tax breaks, and unallocated revenue from video gaming and marijuana sales.

“Tinley Park residents are contending with rising costs and higher property taxes, but our schools, parks, and libraries are still being shortchanged,” said Michael Maloney, candidate for Tinley Park mayor. “The current administration has created a system that benefits developers and businesses while ignoring the financial strain on families. Our plan will restore fairness, provide financial relief to residents and put them first before the politically connected few.”

The Problem: Mismanagement and Misused Revenue

TIF districts now cover 70% to 80% of the village, diverting property tax dollars from schools, parks, and libraries to benefit developers who donate to the current mayor’s campaign.

Tinley Park has also seen a rise in video gaming parlors and the approval of a marijuana dispensary. Despite increased tax revenues from these businesses, none of the funds have been used to help reduce residents’ property taxes.

The Tinley Together Plan: A Three-Part Approach:

• Limit TIF Districts: Reduce the number of TIF districts, ensuring property tax dollars go to essential services like schools, parks, and libraries instead of corporate subsidies.
  
  
• End Excessive Corporate Tax Breaks: Stop giving multi-million-dollar tax incentives to developers and corporations, which shifts the financial burden to residents.
  
  
• Implement a Property Tax Rebate Program: Use revenues from video gaming and marijuana businesses to directly fund a property tax rebate program, providing relief to residents.

“With Tinley Together’s plan, we’ll prioritize families over corporate interests and political donors,” Maloney said. “We will restore transparency and ensure residents see real relief.”
