Trinity Teacher Celebrates 42 Years in the Ministry
Trinity Lutheran, Tinley Park teacher, Mr. John Boor, celebrates his 42 years of teaching & retirement
John Boor was born August 28, 1953, in Elgin, Illinois, to John and Shirley Boor; two younger sisters followed.
Growing up, John had a paper route, worked at a sod and mushroom farm, was a Walcamp counselor, and a Ford Mechanic.
In 1975, John graduated from Concordia, River Forest, married Kathy Gray, and began teaching at St. Peter’s,
Arlington Heights, where he taught 7th grade Social Studies and coached wrestling. He also coached football
at Arlington Heights High School. A Call in 1978 took John and Kathy to Holy Cross, Memphis, Tennessee,
where John taught a combined 7th & 8th grade classroom, along with assuming the duties of coaching soccer,
girls’ volleyball and basketball and was assistant principal and interim principal. Their daughter, Jenny, was
born during this time. In his spare time, John took up bass fishing and became a member of a Bass Club. In
1985, John was Called to Trinity, as the 8th grade teacher. Since then, he has taught various subjects, has
been the assistant principal and has coached track, as well as his famed soccer teams. For John coaching is a
part of his ministry as He actively proclaims his Savior as he leads athletes in a variety of sports. John has also
led a Promise Keepers Bible Study at church and serves as a communion assistant. John is active in the
surrounding communities. He is a familiar face in the Oak Forest, Tinley Park and Frankfort area especially in
the pools as he also coaches for Tinley Park High School’s Swim programs. This leaves just a little time spend
with his four grandsons Noah, Jobe, Wyatt and Jax nor to pursue his fishing and hunting hobbies.
John feels blessed to have had the opportunity to share his talents at Trinity, and is thankful he is able to be part of the lives of God’s Children.
Thank you and God's blessings, Mr. Boor! Trinity has been blessed to have you serve here!
