Vascular Specialists Welcomes Sheraz Qureshi
Olympia Fields and Orland Park offices add fourth fellowship trained surgeon to team

- A team will always outperform an individual. With a team, knowledge, experience and wisdom are multiplied, resulting in vastly improved outcomes.
That’s one of the reasons that Dr. Sheraz Qureshi was drawn to vascular surgery and specifically to Vascular Specialists. “Being a vascular surgeon means partnering with not only my patients in their health recovery, but also collaborating with fellow vascular surgeons, primary care physicians and other specialists. My commitment to practicing vascular surgery in this way means I will continue to follow my patients’ recovery to improved health, build lasting relationships and be a part of helping them regain and maintain the quality of life they desire.”
Qureshi, MD, joined Vascular Specialists in August. Vascular Specialists, with offices in Olympia Fields and Orland Park, is a team of award-winning, fellowship trained and board certified vascular and endovascular surgeons, caring for patients throughout the greater Chicago Southland region. Eugene (Gene) Tanquilut, DO, is the founder and president of the practice.

“You spend most of your time at work,” says Qureshi. “You want to spend that time in a good community and in the company of good people. I’m originally from the Chicago area and, with four small children, my wife and I were looking to return, to be near family again. When I first spoke to Gene, I was impressed by his personality. He’s very collegial. There is no arrogance or pretentiousness about him, even though he has built a very successful practice. He’s a good guy.”
Qureshi earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Northwestern University in Evanston, completed an Master of Arts in Medical Sciences at Boston University and then earned his Doctor of Medicine at New York Medical College. After accomplishing his residency in General Surgery at Albany Medical Center, he completed his Fellowship training in Vascular Surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He speaks English and Hindi/Urdu.

“Vascular surgery excites me because I get to be a real part of my patients’ lives. I am able to see patients as individual people rather than as a collection of symptoms or issues. There is both a technical aspect and a clinical aspect to vascular surgery, as it’s a mix of different specialties. It encompasses medical management, analyzing results from ultrasounds, radiography and other testing, both minimally invasive and open surgery as needed, and ongoing support to improve not just a patient’s vascular health, but the health of their whole body,” says Qureshi. “It enables me to work with my hands, and to be well-rounded in both education and experience.”
Many times, he explains, patients are referred to a vascular surgeon when they are already very ill. “Vascular surgeons have unique tools, and when you are the only one offering help, patients are very grateful. I feel very good knowing that I’ve helped make a real improvement in not just their health, but the quality of their lives,” says Qureshi.
Qureshi and the other medical professionals at Vascular Specialists including Tanquilut, Sanjeev Pradhan MD and Saadi Alhalbouni MD, help patients experiencing a wide range of issues, from peripheral artery disease, amputation prevention and abdominal aortic aneurysms to varicose veins, dialysis management, diabetes complications and stroke care. The practice is affiliated with Advocate South Suburban Hospital, Advocate Trinity Hospital, Franciscan St. James Hospital, Palos Community Hospital and Silver Cross Hospital.
Tanquilut says, “We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Qureshi. Not only are his qualifications and experience of the highest level, his collaborative attitude and willingness to be a part of problem-solving fit very well into our group’s philosophy. He is a valuable addition to the Vascular Specialists team.”
