WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – Three Western Springs businesses are seeking village subsidies to help pay for improvements to their downtown buildings.

They are Village True Value Hardware ($10,000), Casey's Market ($7,162) and Petite Vie Brasserie restaurant ($8,425). They are in the 800 and 900 blocks of Burlington Avenue.

The money would come from a tax increment financing district, or TIF.

In a TIF, the money generated from the growth in the district's tax base goes to the district itself. Under state law, that money can be invested in projects in the district that spur development, benefitting the local economy in the long run.

Village True Value, which has been downtown for 70 years, wants to repair its existing bow truss roof and limestone coping.

Casey's Market, which has been downtown since 1969, seeks to upgrade its first-floor facade.

Opening in May, Petite Vie plans to repair its roof to prevent further interior water issues.

The Village Board is set to vote on the grants at its meeting Monday.
