📰 News we're reading

• Mystery Surrounds Western Springs Shopping Center's Address (patch.com) — Western Springs officials and residents are puzzling over why the long-standing Garden Market Shopping Center lists its address on Gilbert Avenue even though it sits just south of 47th Street on Willow Springs Road. Village staff and the Western Springs Historical Society are digging through old records and ads to understand how the unusual address choice came about and whether it was intentional marketing or simple confusion.

• Lyons Township High Fixing Failure To Get Project Permit (patch.com) — Lyons Township High School is seeking a permit to restart South Campus athletic field work that Western Springs halted this spring for lacking approval. Neighbors near Howard Avenue are concerned about noise and visual impacts, and the village's Plan Commission will review the discus, shot put, and softball changes at a public meeting Thursday night at Village Hall.

• Police Cameras Prompt Western Springs Residents' Concerns (patch.com) — Western Springs' use of six license plate-reading cameras is drawing privacy concerns from local high school students, who worry about data control and potential sharing with federal agencies. Village leaders say the cameras have helped solve crimes and promise to re-examine their contract with Motorola and meet with residents to explain how the data is used.
