LAGRANGE PARK, IL – Pillars’ Constance Morris House was one of five beneficiaries of the inaugural Chicagoland AVON Walk the Course Against Domestic Violence. On September 13th, over 300 participants took to the Cog Hill golf course for a four mile walk in support of the fight against domestic violence. The event raised $20,000 for Pillars’ domestic violence shelter Constance Morris House, as well as four other local domestic violence agencies.
“Constance Morris House supports the women and children in our community who have, in many cases, been silently suffering at the hands of an abuser.” said Caroline Leban, Pillars supporter and one of the event’s top fundraisers. “The work they do is tremendous, and we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful evening to support such an important cause.”

“On average in the United States, one in three women will become a victim of abuse or partner violence in her lifetime,” said Carol Kurzig, President of the Avon Foundation for Women. “Until this statistic changes, the Avon Foundation for Women will continue to draw attention to the issue and work to change the course of domestic violence for all victims and their families.”
The PGA Wives Foundation partnered with the Avon Foundation to host the event. Amy Wilson, president of the PGA TOUR Wives Association, said “Domestic violence is an unacceptable form of abuse that our society, as a whole, needs to stop considering a private matter and make a public one. It is not pretty, and it is not glamorous, but it can and should be addressed.”
