Armed Teen Found Near Western Springs School: Cops

The teen and two others also had marijuana and alcohol at a shopping center near South Campus, police said.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – A 15-year-old La Grange boy was arrested Thursday morning after he was found with a loaded .22-caliber gun at Garden Market shopping center, 4700 S. Gilbert Ave., Western Springs police said.

The 15-year-old, a 16-year-old La Grange boy and a 16-year-old Brookfield boy were found with alcohol and marijuana, police said.

The youths were found in a construction area, police said. When officers approached the teens, one of them walked away.

The 16-year-old La Grange teen was charged with unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor and unlawful possession of marijuana, according to a police news release. The 16-year-old Brookfield teen was charged with unlawful possession of an electronic vape device and obstructing a police officer,

Charges of possession of a gun against the 15-year-old are pending with Cook County prosecutors, police said.

Lyons Township High School issued a public message about the incident, noting it was near the school's South Campus.

It was unclear whether the teens were Lyons Township High students.
