Bites Nearby: Cozy Up to Lucca's Pizzeria and Ristorante

Quaint La Grange restaurant serves up big flavors and unique toppings.

I believe this to be true for most families: everyone has their opinion on who has great pizza. My husband and I have our neighborhood favorites, but the one place in the area that we both agree on is Lucca’s Pizzeria and Ristorante located at 108 W. Burlington Avenue in La Grange.

What makes this pizza good? If you like thin crust, Lucca’s prepares a wonderfully thin and crisp pizza. Extra-extra thin? Let them know and they'll gladly do it to your liking. They do have a Sicilian Style Pan and Stuffed Pizza for those who enjoy a more "bready" texture. My only recommendation is eating in. Nothing beats the "fresh from the oven" flavor.

If you have a more adventurous palate, check out their specialty pizzas. They have toppings like smoked mozzarella, giardiniera, eggplant and caramelized onions.  Not in the mood for pizza, try the Chicken Vesuvio or Veal Parmesan.

Lucca’s also cooks up an excellent calamari appetizer, several authentic Italian pasta dishes and their marinara sauce is made from the highest quality tomatoes. If you have food allergies in your family, Lucca’s serves up gluten-free pizza crusts and pastas.

The seating is very limited at Lucca’s. By most standards this restaurant is small, but I’d rather call it quaint with a kind of European ambiance. If you call ahead, the management should give you a fair estimate on wait time. They do have outdoor seating, if you can withstand the four or five trains that may pass by during your meal.

The staff is friendly and because of the size of their dining area, they’re always an arm’s length away.

Check out their website to receive some great offers especially their “Happy Hour” and Monday and Tuesday wine deal. This is not your college pizza joint, you may pay a little more, but can you really put a price on good pizza?
