Bites Nearby: Great Pizza at JC's Pub & Ristorante
In McCook, there's a throwback to restaurants gone by.
You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:
JC's Pub & Ristorante—8650 Joliet Road in McCook. (708)-387-0030. Open daily for lunch and dinner.
You’ve probably driven past this place hundreds of times, maybe even thousands, especially if you take Joliet Road to access the Stevenson Expressway. It solidly sits among acres of industrial buildings and the Vulcan McCook quarry. So, when you see its parking lot consistently full day and night, your curiosity eventually peaks and you have to give it a try.

is your typical old school Italian-American eatery. It is truly a throwback to a restaurant gone by. Upon entering, you’re greeted by a hostess dressed to the nines and already you feel special. You can tell by the décor, JC's has been recently updated, yet still maintains the look of your grandmother’s living room, minus the plastic on the furniture.
There are several signed photos of celebrities adorning the walls. It’s warm, comfortable and very inviting. It’s a large place with several rooms and depending on your party, they will seat you in the room most appropriate for you. If you have several kids, you’ll go in the “kid friendly” room where being loud is OK and expected.

A couple on a date may end up in the dimly lit dining room with the enormous bar. If you’re lucky, you’ll come on a night that has a live jazz band. This is the kind of place where you order a Manhattan, instead of the latest fad martini. The service is excellent, quick and extremely attentive without being in your face. The food offers all the standard Italian-American fare and the portions are generous. They have several pasta dishes like lasagna and ravioli but they also offer plenty of fish and meat options. Many patrons come for the pizza. It’s thin, gooey with a hint of sweet in the sauce.
This is a great spot for a group pizza night out! Even though McCook is not the first place you think of for dining, there’s definitely a little gold mine worth trying next to the quarry.
