Bites Nearby: Honey Bee is the Local Spot for Breakfast Food

Fast and easy family dining, right in your backyard, on 47th Street in Western Springs.

When you need a quick breakfast in town, Honey Bee CafΓ© is the spot to go. Serving up breakfast and lunch seven days a week, Honey Bee (24 47th Street, Western Springs) definitely provides a role in the community.

It’s an easy gathering place to catch up with a friend or treat your family to a pancake breakfast after a sporting event on a Saturday morning. There’s hardly a chance you’ll visit the Honey Bee and not run into someone from your kids’ school or soccer team.

What is amazing is, the parking lot is always full, the booths and tables are all occupied, yet there is never a line out the door like other breakfast places. It’s almost as if they have magically found a way to get people in and out without feeling crowded.

Let’s face it; Honey Bee is not re-inventing any wheels here. As your typical coffee shop, they provide the standard breakfast and lunch choices you would expect of a place like this. The service is friendly, fast and the waitresses have a certain nurturing quality that you can only find at home. The owner, who watches over the establishment like any good Greek diner owner would, stands firmly at the check-out counter directing the staff.

The decor here is, well, early β€˜80s pastels. It’s in dire need of an update, unless you love the look of your grandmother’s kitchen. The menu is large with all the usual comfort diner foodβ€”you know, omelets, blintzes and BLTs. It’s definitely a no-frills dining experience, but the waitresses always seem to know when you need your carafe of water refilled or a coffee warm-up. Their average audience consists of families and senior citizens and they appear to cater to them well.Β
