Bites Nearby: Willow Hills Cooks Up Skillets, Sandwiches

When I was a kid, this is the kind of place my dad used to take my family to on a Sunday afternoon. A Greek owned diner.  No bells or whistles, just a large menu, where you’re bound to find something you’re in the mood to eat. 

Willow Hills Restaurant, 6678 Joliet Road in Countryside is your all-purpose, go-to place. They have a huge menu catering to all palates. Located near the intersection of Joliet Road and Willow Springs Road, it’s nestled in a fairly new strip mall and has plenty of parking.

On Sundays, however, it’s a different story. You’ll be competing with all the other people who just got out of church, or out of bed. If you have a large party for a special occasion breakfast, you can call in advance and they will try to reserve a table. Willow Hills does a great job turning over tables, so you won’t have to endure a long wait.

Any time of the day, breakfast is always good, but how can you go wrong with fluffy omelets and pancakes. For lunch, the classics are good like the Reuben, tuna melt or double-decker club sandwich.For dinner, dig in to the the Thanksgiving style turkey dinner or Athenian style skirt steak, served with your choice of soup or their crispy salads. Fresh baked rolls come accompany the complimentary bread basket.

The atmosphere is comfortable, the servers are polite and prompt and the prices are fair for what you’re getting.  Kids always seem to love a restaurant that gives you free Dum-Dum suckers at the cash register. If you don’t have any big plans for Easter weekend and you’re looking for a no-frills place to eat, Willow Hills is a solid choice.
