Car Break-Ins In This Western Springs Neighborhood: Cops

All the targeted cars had a few things in common, police said.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – Western Springs police are investigating numerous reported car burglaries in the Field Park neighborhood, according to a news release.

All the break-ins occurred in the early morning hours of Thursday, police said. All the cars were reported as unlocked and parked in residential driveways.

Hinsdale has also experienced car burglaries lately.

Here are tips from local police:

  • Keep cars locked and windows closed, even during quick errands.
  • Remove visible items such as cash, wallets, purses and phones from the car and place them in the trunk.
  • Park cars in areas visible to the public and well-lit at night. If possible, park your car in the garage.
  • Always take your keys with you. Don't leave them in the car.
  • A person looking into parked cars or checking their handles may be looking to steal the vehicles. Also, those driving cars at night without lights, traveling slowly and following a course that seems aimless or repetitive may be car burglars.
