Car Drives Into Vestibule at Oak Brook Center's Neiman Marcus Store

Warrenville man citied for improper backing and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, cops say.

A 68-year-old Warrenville man hit several parked cars before crashing into a store vestibule at a suburban shopping center on Monday afternoon, Oak Brook police said.

Police responded to a crash at 6 Neiman Marcus Oak Brook Center around 2:52 p.m. According to police, a car occupied by the 68-year-old driver and a passenger backed out of the parking space.

As the vehicle began to move forward, police said the driver inadvertently accelerated and hit a parked car, which caused a chain reaction and hit two other vehicles.

The driver allegedly backed into two other vehicles, coming to rest in the south vestibule of Neiman Marcus.

Police said there were no other people in the vestibule at the time of the collision.

Both the driver and his passenger were treated and released at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. The driver was cited for improper backing and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Police the parked cars involved were all unoccupied at the time of the crash.
